Shoukry: Mediterranean faces many challenges hindering regional cooperation

Tuesday، 09 October 2018 - 03:42 PM

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Monday 8/10/2018 the Mediterranean is an area facing many challenges that hinder regional cooperation and integration with the aim of reaching sustainable development.

Addressing the 3rd regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, Shoukry said there is a dire need for exerting more efforts to confront these challenges particularly political conflicts and armed disputes in the Middle East, mainly the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the armed conflicts in Syria and Libya.

Egypt has reiterated that the way to settle crises in Syria and Libya is through restoring the national state institutions represented in all social sects that express the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian and Libyan peoples, he said.

The forum is a good opportunity to assert resorting to political solutions led by the United Nations as being the only irreplaceable solution, he said.

He called for the need to resume negotiations on final solution issues and end one of the main causes of instability in the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
