President Sisi’s visit to Russia

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi headed for Moscow on Monday 15/10/2018 on a three-day visit to Russia for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coastal city of Sochi.

The two presidents are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations at all levels. They also will continue consultations and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest within the framework of strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia with an aim of further strengthening and expanding cooperation.

Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Bassam Radi said that the visit represents a new impetus for the continuous constructive cooperation between Cairo and Moscow and the enhancement of the distinguished strategic relations between the two countries.

The upcoming summit between the two leaders will discuss boosting trade and investment between the two countries, activating tourism movement, discussing issues of the Middle East and working together to find peaceful solutions to its crises, especially the Syrian crisis.

The president is also expected to speak at Russia’s Federation Council upper parliament house, as the first foreign president to deliver a speech, during which he will review Egypt's efforts in fighting terrorism and ending the crises facing the countries of the region and the promising investment opportunities in Egypt especially in the Suez Canal area, as well as the efforts for resuming tourism between the two countries and direct flights to Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.

The political and economic agenda of the two leaders includes several files, the most important of these are: the resumption of direct flights between the two countries, cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, the establishment of the Free Trade Area between the Eurasian Economic Union, Egypt and India, as well as many other important issues in the region such as the peace process and the situation in Syria and Libya.

The summit comes as Egypt and Russia are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. The political dialogue develops significantly between the leaders of the two countries with the growth of trade between Cairo and Moscow, which exceeded 6.5 billion dollars.

Egyptian-Russian relations have a long history as the Egyptian-Russian dialogue in the international arena is based on adherence to the formation of a more just and democratic multipolar world order. Both Cairo and Moscow call for the settlement of disputes and conflicts through political and diplomatic means.

The forthcoming summit between Sisi and Putin will give a strong impetus to the distinguished relations between Cairo and Moscow, send important messages and contribute to reaching important understandings on many of the burning issues in the Middle East.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi headed for Moscow on a three-day visit to Russia.


President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi arrived in Federal Russia. The official reception ceremony was held upon arrival at Moscow airport where the Egyptian national anthem was played.

Sisi passed in front of the ceremonial guard.

President Sisi received Tejran Sarkisian, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

President Sisi praised the level of cooperation between Egypt and the Eurasian Union in the light of the first round of negotiations between the two sides due to be held to reach a free trade agreement, in addition to the outcome of the free trade agreements between Egypt, Arab, African and European countries, which would provide all means of success for foreign investments.

For his part, Sarkisian voiced out the Union's appreciation for Egypt and the constructive cooperation between the two sides, marking the Eurasian Union's keenness to reinforce these relations to reach broader vistas.

He stressed keenness on starting negotiations with Egypt to especially in the light of the tangible progress of the Egyptian economic reform program and stability witnessed by Egypt.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi laid a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier in Red Square in Moscow.

President Sisi recorded his greetings and appreciation in the guest book of the Russian Federation Council this morning. He said: "I am keen on strengthening the historical ties between our countries over decades. I look forward that this visit makes for a new step towards consolidating friendship that has long brought together the Egyptian and Russian peoples, and pushing joint cooperation during the next phase in all fields to broader vistas, including communication and interaction between the parliaments of the two friendly countries.


President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said during his meeting with Chairperson of the Russian Federal Council Valentina Matviyenko that relations with Russia have markedly improved over the past five years.


Addressing the Council before giving the floor to the Egyptian leader, Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko expressed appreciation and honor that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is the first head of state to address Russia's Federation Council.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had talks with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the second day of his visit. The talks took up regional and international issues of joint interest and means of boosting bilateral relations in the industrial, cultural and tourist domains along with increasing trade exchange.

In a nice gesture, Russian President Vladimir Putin accompanied President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in a tour of the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.

After the tour, Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted a dinner banquet in honor of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his accompanying delegation at a restaurant located in one of the city’s skyscrapers.

A summit between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin kicked off. The two leaders started their meeting with a tete-a-tete session of talks to be followed by a plenary session. The two sides take up means of pushing up bilateral relations in the economic, industrial and tourist domains along with regional and international issues of common concern with emphasis on fighting terrorism and reaching peaceful settlements to regional crises.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed a comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation agreement between the two countries.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin witnessed the signing of an Egyptian-Russian agreement. Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov signed a memorandum of understanding between the two foreign ministries on strategic political consultations.
