President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has stressed Egypt's keenness to boost cooperation with Gambia in various fields, notably the agriculture one.

Sisi's remarks came during a meeting with Gambian President Adama Barrow at his residence in the Saudi city of Mecca, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, President Sisi expressed his appreciation of distinguished ties binding Cairo and Banjul in the political, cultural and religious domains, the spokesman added.

For his part, the Gambian leader thanked President Sisi and the Egyptian government for supporting his country in carrying out several development projects, the spokesman noted.

Barrow also underlined that his country looks forward to fostering relations with Egypt at all levels, especially with regard to beefing up trade exchange and attracting Egyptian direct investments, as well as making good use of technical support, the spokesman said.

The Gambian president lauded Egypt's efforts to achieve social development and raise economic growth rates for African states.

The two sides discussed some African issues, topped by the situation in West Africa, especially in light of Egypt's presidency of the African Union (AU) and Gambia's membership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In this regard, President Sisi underlined that Egypt seeks during its chairmanship of the AU to work with all African states to overcome all political, security and economic challenges, through activating the African Union mechanisms and promoting joint African action.
