Egypt launches 'Tiba 1' communication satellite

Egypt launched its first communication satellite "Tiba 1" into orbit on Tuesday 26/11/2019.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli expressed his happiness that the launch of the satellite coincided with the inauguration of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of several national developmental and service projects in Port Said and North Sinai governorates.

Madbouli congratulated and thanked all Egyptians who supported their political leadership in the economic reform program.

The satellite, planned to remain in orbit for about 15 years, will offer telecommunication and broadband internet services to individuals and companies in the country, as well as some North African states and Nile Basin countries.

TIBA-1 is a communications spacecraft for the Government of Egypt, developed by Thales Alenia Space and Airbus Defence and Space as co-prime contractors, with Thales Alenia Space acting as lead partner of the contract.

TIBA-1, the fourth satellite launched by Arianespace for Egypt, will operate from an orbital position at 35.5 deg. East.

The premier said in his statement that this new civil and governmental satellite will be a cornerstone in fulfilling Egypt Vision 2030, for it will help Egypt in the achievement of its sustainable development goals and the transformation towards a digital economy.

He thanked the international companies that helped Egypt in launching its satellite, greeting them for a job well done and for all the professionalism and competence they have shown during the years that took to build the satellite and in face of the many challenges that they faced to accomplish the project according to an ambitious timetable. He also expressed gratitude to the teams that were responsible for implementing the project, including those who contributed to building, assembling and testing the satellite.
