Agriculture Ministry, FAO ink cooperation agreement on combating fall armyworm

Minister of Agriculture Ezz el Din Abu Stait and Assistant Director-General and FAO Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa Abdel Salam Ould Ahmed inked a cooperation agreement on an urgent project to combat fall armyworm (FAW).

In statements on Thursday 28/11/2019 after inking the agreement, Abu Stait said that 350,000 dollars will be used to help in fighting FAW especially in southern Egypt and raise the awareness of the farmers about its risks and best pest-control methods.

Egypt has an important role to play in combating the fall armyworm, Abu Stait said.

FAW primarily affects maize, rice, sorghum, millet, sugarcane, vegetable crops and cotton.
