Sisi: EGP 615bn spent in 5 years to double electricity production in Egypt

Tuesday، 03 December 2019 - 03:42 PM

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Tuesday 3/12/2019 more than EGP 615 have been spent to double electricity production in Egypt over the past five years.

During the opening of a number of national projects in Damietta governorate, the president said "the state spent all this money, which is more than half a trillion pounds, in just one sector to improve the electricity service and its transmission. I repeat so that every Egyptian citizen knows that. The electricity production was 25,000 megawatt and 28,000 megawatt were added which means that it has been doubled over the last five years."

"The size of generated electricity over the past five years is equal to or more than what was produced over 50 or 60 years," he said.

"I am explaining this to the Egyptians because they are the ones who did that in five years. Electricity production in Egypt has been doubled and electricity means development and living," he added.

President Sisi said the electricity production needs grids, transformers and control stations in order to reach the flexibility needed for Egypt to become a bridge of electricity transfer, just like the Suez Canal which acts as a movement axis from the east to the west and from the north to the south.
"In order to make this happen, we had 2,300 kw networks and now we have more than 6,000, which is triple," the president said.
"This cost EGP 615 billion," the president said, noting that the achievements are being presented to the people in order to clear any doubts.
The president pointed out to efforts exerted in all the state sectors to carry out the set plans. "But, still there are problems pertaining to the wrong or inaccurate reading of electricity meters. Smart meters or pre-paid ones will end this problem," he stressed.
"We are talking about 30 million clients and no one in the world can provide this amount of meters. Even if this happens, fixing them all will not be done in a year or two. This takes at least 10 to 15 years. We decided then to encourage Egyptian companies to manufacture a larger amount. If Egyptian companies made more investments, it would be of great benefit to them as there are more than 20 million clients," he added.

President Sisi said the state is tracking down haphazard construction and correcting its resulting mistakes in sanitation, water, electricity and natural gas. "There are areas where we cannot extend natural gas pipelines because it would be unsafe," he said.
The State exerts utmost efforts to resolve problems and to convince the Egyptians that it is moving in a fast pace, he added.

President Sisi said the state is moving at a fast pace and will continue with the people's efforts and patience. "You see the results for yourselves," he said, referring to a catastrophic economic situation in 2016.
He expressed appreciation and respect to Damietta inhabitants and governorate for their work, commitment and efforts.
