Egypt was chosen to host the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties (COSP9) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, scheduled to be held in 2021.
This came during the eighth session of the conference, which was held in Abu Dhabi on December 16-20.
Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) Sherif Seif El Din delivered Egypt's speech at the conference.
During his speech, Seif El Din reviewed efforts exerted by Egypt to implement all resolutions aimed to help achieve the convention's objectives.
He also stressed that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed to support all efforts to fulfill Egypt's international obligations.
Seif El Din announced that Egypt is ready to host the ninth COSP in 2021.
The United Nations Convention against Corruption is the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument. Adopted sixteen years ago, the Convention has reached almost universal adherence, having been ratified by 186 States parties.
Every two years, the States parties to the Convention meet to review the implementation of the Convention and to discuss how States can better tackle corruption.
The Convention came into force in December 2005 and has been ratified by most United Nations Member States. The newest States parties are Samoa, Equatorial Guinea and Chad in 2018.
