Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Anani unveiled on Thursday the discovery of an ancient cemetery in northern Tuna El-Gebel archaeological site in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Minya.
The cemetery belongs to top priests of Thoth God and top staffers in the 15th nome of ancient Upper Egypt, said the minister at a press conference.
The cemetery was unearthed by the Egyptian archaeological mission operating in Gharifa Antiquities area.
This is the first find in 2020, he said, adding that Minya is still full of secrets to be unraveled soon.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Moustafa Waziri said the cemetery houses 16 tombs containing 20 coffins of different shapes and sizes.
The mission also found more than 700 amulets inside the cemetery, he added.
