Rashwan's meeting with foreign media representatives

Today, at the headquarters of the State Information Service (SIS), the meeting for the month of June with foreign correspondents took place, where the journalist, politician and the current Chairman of the State Information Service, Diaa Rashwan had a meeting with fifty representatives of accredited agencies and newspapers in Egypt. These periodic meetings that the State Information Service is keen on holding to enhance existing cooperation based on transparency with foreign media representatives would reflect positively on the performance of their journalistic work in accordance with internationally recognized professional standards.
In his opening statement, Diaa Rashwan emphasized the rapid response of the State Information Service to foreign reporters' questions, providing all data and information related to the Egyptian affairs. Rashwan, also, expressed the readiness of SIS to facilitate regular meetings with the concerned officials to discuss specific files, based on the request of foreign correspondents. This is in addition to his monthly meetings with the correspondents. He, also, highlighted that the President of the Republic directed to invite a number of foreign correspondents to participate in covering various national events.
Within the interactive dialogue between SIS Chairman and the attendees, a group of correspondents presented a number of suggestions and inquiries, the most prominent of which are:
• Some called for the need of coordination with various authorities to arrange meetings with various officials .
• The importance of holding regular meetings with health officials in order to remain updated on COVID-19 pandemic.
. • Arranging field visits to isolation hospitals and the newly established Infection Control Center to convey a realistic picture, highlight the efforts exerted by the medical teams, and give the chance to foreign correspondents to cover the State's humanitarian efforts to distribute medical supplies .
• As SIS has arranged a number of field visits for the foreign correspondents to prisons, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, repeating such visits in the future has been requested .
• The participants commended the President's honoring of the dean of foreign correspondents in Egypt and the chairman of Foreign press Association(FPA), Mr. Volkhard Windfuhr, on December 9, 2019. They suggested that this date would be considered an annual anniversary to celebrate foreign correspondents in Egypt and to provide support for the Association in Egypt to enable it to be more effective and to establish closer ties with them .
To conclude, the SIS Chairman promised to consider these proposals. Moreover, he responded to many technical, administrative, and logistic demands regarding the work of accredited foreign correspondents in Egypt. He also expressed his keenness to hold these regular meetings continuously .
