Irrigation minister follows up water situation during flood season

The Permanent Committee for Regulating the Revenue of the Nile River convened on Saturday under Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati.
The committee followed up the local water situation during the current season, which is characterized by the highest water demand.
It also discussed the measures underway to deal with water shortages and make the maximum use of available water resources.
Reviewing the forecasts of the next flood season, the committee expected that more rain showers will fall on the Nile headwaters this season.
Abdel Aati underlined the need to exercise utmost care and caution while managing Lake Nasser budget of water to maximize the benefits of water resources.
Preliminary figures indicate that the flood season is going to see above-average rainfall, with precipitation levels exceeding 40 millimetres on many regions in Sudan and Ethiopia during the period between August 9-11.
