Statement by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the International Online Aid Conference to Support Lebanon
Monday، 10 August 2020 - 10:39 PM
Honorable Heads of State,
Your Majesties and Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all, I would like to extend my thanks to dear friend, Mr. President Emmanuel Macron for the initiative to hold this meeting. Such conference is of paramount importance due to the exceptional new adverse circumstances of successive multi-aspect crises facing sisterly Lebanon. Conceivably, our meeting today may ease the onerous burden that has overloaded Lebanon. Moreover, it sends a powerful and clear desperately-needed supportive message to the Lebanese people at this delicate time.
I am fully confident that the Member States participating in the International Support Group for Lebanon are keen on exerting all efforts to keep security, stability and assistance of brotherly Lebanon to recover and be prosperous once again.
Egypt and the whole world have watched with more grief and pain the destruction scenes caused by the Beirut’s port explosion that took place on the 4th of current August. Upon this tragic accident that resulted in a great number of victims, injured and missing persons, Egypt has assisted Lebanese brothers through dispatching military planes loaded with emergency aids, medical staff and supplies needed to help them face the accident’s repercussions. Furthermore, the Egyptian Field Military Hospital opened its doors in Lebanon to provide urgent medical services together shoulder to shoulder with the Lebanese brothers.
Hence, Egypt reiterates its full support and solidarity with the Lebanese people and expresses its utmost readiness to provide all forms of support represented in providing more medical and relief assistance in this regard. Additionally, Egypt harnesses its potential to help the brothers in Lebanon in rebuilding the stricken areas, especially through sending engineers and technicians specialized in the fields of rehabilitating infrastructure and repairing damaged power stations. It also calls for an international effort to help and support the Lebanese people in overcoming the devastating side effects of the accident and in rebuilding what has been destroyed.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
You are fully aware that this exceptional circumstances facing the whole world and the Arab region due to Coronavirus pandemic had imposed heavy burdens on many countries. Specifically, the countries that basically face serious economic challenges; salient of which is our brotherly Lebanon. Moreover, after this tragic accident, it has recently become in an extremely difficult and complicated situation due to all these issues.
This renders the international support for the Lebanese people urgent and inevitable to help it withstand this serious challenge. Additionally, it is imperative to booster the role of the international community in discarding any political disputes. Moreover, it is not allowed to exploit the Lebanese arena to settle any regional accounts, taking into account maintaining the Lebanese sovereignty.
I appeal to the Lebanese loyal patriots in Lebanon, regardless of their positions, to distance their homeland from regional disputes and conflicts, and to concentrate their efforts on strengthening Lebanon’s state institutions. Additionally, they should meet the aspirations of the Lebanese people by implementing inevitable prompt economic reforms. This would qualify Lebanon to gain the trust of international financial institutions and global support, in accordance with the decisions of CEDRE Conference in 2018, the matter which will positively affect Lebanon's march towards stability, development and prosperity.
I reiterate my thanks once more, Mr. President Emmanuel Macron
