Antiquities ministry to fete 118th anniv. of establishing Egyptian Museum

Tourism and Antiquities Ministry will hold a ceremony in November to mark the 118th anniversary of the establishment of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, downtown Cairo, Minister Khaled el Anani said on Tuesday6/10/2020.

While touring the different halls of the museum, Anani picked 118th artifacts to be featured in a documentary to be aired at the ceremony.

He stressed that the museum's role will not fade even after the transfer of royal mummies and the inauguration of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) and the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

These picked artifacts only represent 6 percent of the museum's possessions, totaling 100,000 pieces, he said.

The minister chatted with a group of Ukrainian and Belarus tourists and pictured with them.

The tourists lauded the precautionary measures being applied in museums and archaeological places, as well as other tourist facilities.

After the tour, the minister held a meeting with archaeologist Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Moustafa Waziri and members of the company tasked with transferring the royal mummies to the NMEC in Old Cairo's El Fustat district to check on final preparations of the transfer process.
