DEBI aims at building skilled technology influencers, leaders - minister

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said on Friday the ministry launched Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI) with the aim of building skilled technology influencers and leaders that could help develop communications and modern technology industry in Egypt.
The initiative will help hone practical, language, technological and personal skills of calibers, creating an enabling environment to nurture innovation and excellence, and providing the qualifications needed by local and global companies operating in the ICT domain, the minister said.
The minister made the remarks during a seminar organized by the ministry about the initiative with the participation of heads and representatives of local and global ICT companies.
The seminar comes as part of the ministry's keenness on enhancing partnership with its ICT partners in initiatives related to capacity building.
DEBI targets training 1,000 graduates of the Faculties of Engineering and Computer Science, with a Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electronics and communications engineering, computers and information or computer science.
Training includes four main tracks: data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI); cybersecurity; robotics and automation; and digital arts. The initiative also includes training in leadership, management and English language skills, as well as a range of teamwork skills and activities.
Trainees will study the main subjects for six to eight months, and spend four other months on their graduation projects.
Candidates will also be taught soft skills like communication skills, fundamentals of business administration and entrepreneurship, and English language courses.
By the end of the training, they will receive a professional Master's degree in one of the four technical tracks, granted by one of the partner universities.
This is in addition to certificates from international IT companies, international certificates in leadership and management skills, and an international certificate in English language skills.
