Culture min.: 19 cultural projects worth EGP 132mn to be opened till June 2021

The Ministry of Culture targets inaugurating 19 cultural projects in 11 governorates at a cost of EGP 132 million till June 2021, said Culture Minister Inas Abdel Dayem on Tuesday27/10/2020.

The minister made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to review the key underway projects of the Culture Ministry as well efforts to implement presidential directives issued to the ministry.

The premier affirmed the significance of the pivotal role played by the Ministry of Culture in fostering awareness through its various activities and setting up cultural entities nationwide.

The minister-highlighted progress achieved by the Culture Ministry as regards inventorying all state-owned assets, noting that the ministry has created a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database to ease searching for information and analysing them alongside the digitization of assets’ ownership documents.

In addition, the ministry has drawn up an online cultural map entailing the schedule of all-cultural and art activities taking place across the country, she added during the meeting.

The number of buildings and sites affiliated with the Culture Ministry stand at 887, Abdel Dayem said, adding that the number of land plots owned by the ministry is 65.

Since the start of 2020, the ministry has opened eight new and renovated cultural sites in six governorates at a cost of EGP 372.4 million, the minister said.

Meanwhile, Abdel Dayem reviewed the coronavirus precautionary measures adopted by her ministry since the outbreak of the pandemic along with measures to resume cultural activities.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the ministry has upgraded 49 cultural sites at a cost surpassing EGP 28 million, the minister said, noting that three open-air theaters were opened as part of the gradual resumption of cultural activities.
