In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and the Most Merciful
Your Excellency, Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, President of the Hellenic Republic,
I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to your excellency for the generous hospitality and cordial reception during my visit to your friendly country that holds a special place in my heart and in the hearts of all Egyptians. Indeed, our two peoples co-share mutual historical deep-rooted cultural legacy; as Egypt and Greece have the earliest, the most ancient and the most genuine civilizations. Thus, they have played a prominent role and an undeniable impact on advancing the march of human civilization in various fields of science, arts and literature.
The common ground, mutual interests and close cultural ties between Egypt and Greece have made the two friendly countries an important bridge for convergence, dialogue and cooperation between the Arab and Islamic world from one hand and the European continent from the other. This burdens us with a common responsibility to renounce violence, as well as to promote values of peace, tolerance and mutual respect among peoples and cultures of both Southern and Northern Mediterranean.
My visit to your dear country came at the meantime as our bilateral relationships are witnessing a quantum leap forward in all aspects of cooperation, affirming the strategic nature of those relations aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of the peoples of the two countries. This also represents an important opportunity to resume consultation and exchange views with your Excellency and the Prime Minister, not only on ways to improve cooperation between our two countries at all levels, but also to coordinate positions on regional issues that directly affect our national security.
Perhaps the convergence of views during our talks reflects a firm conviction on the necessity to continue solidarity to achieve our common goals. The importance of our meeting today increases due to the provocative practices and regional destabilization attempts that the Eastern Mediterranean is witnessing. These practices violate the international Law and the principles of good-neighborliness. Furthermore, the recent state of tension and strain between the Islamic and European worlds as a result of the offensive cartoons of sacred religious symbols and beliefs, and the terrorist crimes that followed, assures the responsibility undertaken by Egypt and Greece to continue setting a positive example that maintains security and stability in the region. Moreover, it works on correcting misconceptions and listening to the voice of reason and wisdom to bring about fraternity, equality and acceptance of the other, as well as reject racism, extremism and hatred.
Finally, I would like to extend an invitation to your Excellency to visit Egypt in the near future in order to resume our efforts in entrenching all aspects of cooperation and coordination between our two countries. I wish you all the best of luck and the friendly people of Greece further luxury and prosperity.
