Upgrading smartphone media services 'indispensable' - Communications minister

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat on Saturday 21/11/2020 urged the Egyptian media outlets to keep up with the modern technologies to activate their role as a main pillar of Egypt's soft power.
Addressing the opening session of the Future of Media 2020 Conference, the minister added that the current digital era, whose steps are accelerating and its capabilities are growing daily, should lead media organizations to interact with technological developments and adapt them to formulate a new reality that highlights the concept of digital media as well as depending on modern technologies in production, preservation and distribution of information.
We have to cope with the new media models that achieve interaction with citizens, such as live broadcast services for television and radio channels on the Internet, online press, and mobile journalism, Talaat said.
With the global trend towards expanding reliance on digital media in light of the expanding use of the Internet; It has become imperative to develop services provided by media organizations on smartphones; especially since the number of internet users on mobile phones in Egypt reached about 42 million users, he added.
The minister also pointed to the need to take advantage of the huge potentials offered by the artificial intelligence applications, noting that Egypt has advanced 55 global ranks in the government's readiness index for artificial intelligence.
