PM directs to study structural reforms program, submit proposals

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has chaired a meeting of the economic ministerial group to discuss a number of important issues and review the financial performance for the July-October period of the 2020/2021 fiscal year.
The videoconferencing meeting, held on Monday, also considered the most important aspects of the structural reform program of the national economy in the presence of Tarek Amer, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt.
The premier tasked the members of the economic group with studying the structural reforms program and making their notes to be discussed later, in addition to announcing the program in a press conference to be held in the coming period.
The meeting was also attended by Ministers Hala Al Saeed of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al Mashat of International Cooperation, Mohamed Mait of Finance, Nevien Gamea of Trade and Industry and a host of key officials from the respective ministries, among others.
Mait pointed out that financial data of the first four months of the current fiscal year shows that financial indices remained good and balanced despite the negative impact of the outbreak of coronavirus on economic activities at national and international levels.
The finance minister said the initial surplus of the general budget hit EGP 5.2 billion, by 0.1 percent of GDP against EGP 14.7 billion; by 0.3 percent of GDP in the same period last year.
Mait added that the total deficit of the general budget hit about EGP 171 billion, representing 2.6 percent of the GDP against a total deficit of EGP 180 billion, by 3.1 percent of GDP during the same period one year earlier.
