President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today the ministers of foreign affairs of "Munich Group", which is concerned with supporting the peace process in the Middle East.
President El-Sisi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Mr. Ayman Safadi, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian, and Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Heiko Maas, in the presence Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sameh Shoukry.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi was briefed, during the meeting, on the developments of the Munich ministerial group's efforts to revitalize the negotiation track of the Palestinian cause, in light of its current meeting in Cairo.
The President welcomed the ministerial group in Cairo. His Excellency praised the Egyptian-Jordanian-French-German quadripartite coordination that aims to break the current deadlock in the peace process negotiations. President El-Sisi stressed the importance of taking action in the mean time so as to re-introduce the peace process file on the international political arena. The latest political developments at the international and regional levels and the fact that two Arab countries that are closely linked to the Palestinian cause as well as the largest countries of the European Union are members of the group should be taken into consideration, he added.
The President also affirmed that Egypt will continue its tireless efforts towards the Palestinian cause since it is one of the constants of its politics and the core of the Middle East issues. His Excellency stressed that these efforts aim to help the Palestinian people restore their legitimate rights and establish their independent state in accordance with international legitimacy references.
The President stressed that the settlement of the Palestinian cause will change the reality and condition of the entire region to the better by opening new paths and horizons for regional cooperation between governments and peoples. Over more than four decades, Egypt has been pushing forward the peace process in the region, he added.
The foreign ministers of Jordan, France and Germany expressed their appreciation for Egypt's tireless efforts in support of the Palestinian cause, commending the historic, unwavering role Egypt plays in this regard to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
They also praised the Egyptian efforts aimed to stabilize the situation and improve the humanitarian, living and economic conditions in the Gaza Strip, complete the reconciliation process and achieve political consensus among all Palestinian powers and factions.
They stressed the importance of regularly holding "Munich Group" meetings with the aim of pushing forward the peace efforts in the region and resolving the current stalemate in the Palestinian cause by urging the Palestinian and Israeli sides to negotiate in order to reach a just and comprehensive political settlement.
The Spokesman added that, at the end of the meeting, the President asked the ministers to convey his greetings to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
