Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said Monday the economic reform Egypt adopted during the past years with the support of the political leadership and the great Egyptian people, put the country among the fastest-growing economies in the world.
Addressing the House of Representatives general session on the performance of government program 2018/2020 by every ministry under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Maait said the political leadership, since 2014, as well as the subsequent governments, shouldered the responsibility of moving Egypt from a difficult economic situation to a safe economic one.
He added that the economic reform program helped Egypt to deal successfully with the impact of COVID-19, a matter that contributed to achieving economic and financial stability.
Maait hailed legislation approved by the House of Representatives during its previous tenure, saying economic, legislative and administrative reforms staved off economic instability.
The minister said his ministry carried out economic projects contributing to financial and economic stability, rationalizing expenditure, increasing exports and automating tax systems, a matter that helped accelerate growth rates despite COVID-19.
He also said the economic reform contributed to raising growth rates, increasing job opportunities, stabilizing state’s financial conditions and achieving an annual 2 percent surplus.
