Egypt will receive a huge shipment of anti-Covid vaccine in the coming few hours, the health minister announced Sunday.
Registration for shots will start as of next week, Hala Zayed told a press conference.
A flat infection curve has been reported for three weeks now, Zayed said, adding that medical staff at isolation hospitals have already been vaccinated.
Vaccination priority will be given to the elderly and citizens with chronic diseases, she made it clear.
“We are working non-stop with the Egyptian Drug Authority to make sure the vaccines are efficient,” Zayed told reporters.
Zayed said that a national scientific committee formed by her Ministry has agreed on the type of vaccines and the targeted segments.
The pandemic situation in Egypt is stable, the minister assured, praising the role played by medical staff and scientists in this regard.
Egypt will come out of this ordeal with improved scientific efficiency, she expected.
Vaccination spots have been set across Egypt, Zayed said, adding that her Ministry will follow up the medical condition of people who receive the shots.
Egypt has signed contracts to get 100 million doses of the vaccine, 40 million of which from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) will arrive in the coming days, the minister said.
Egypt is the first African country to receive the vaccines and start the vaccination process, she noted.
