Sisi: Egypt keen to deepen, foster strategic partnership with France

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted on Monday Egypt's keenness to bolster and deepen its strategic partnership with France, which represents a major pillar to maintain the Middle East's stability and security.

President Sisi was speaking during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

Sisi said that he is looking forward to maximizing coordination and consultation with the French side in the coming period on various regional issues and files of bilateral cooperation, especially in the security and military domains.

Meanwhile, Macron affirmed that Paris is committed to supporting Cairo's efforts and capabilities to fight terrorism and extremist thought to achieve stability and security in the region.

The meeting touched on ways of boosting bilateral cooperation at different levels, especially the economic and trade ones by increasing the volume of the French investments in Egypt.

Macron also lauded the successful steps of the comprehensive development in Egypt as well as the mega projects, currently established, stressing France is keen on supporting Egypt's development efforts in all fields.

The two presidents discussed a number of regional files, including Eastern Mediterranean, Libya, and Syria. In this regard, President Sisi stressed the importance of settling crises in these areas by political solutions.

The French president said his country is interested in intensifying coordination with Egypt regarding the ME issues, praising Egypt's endeavors to reaching political solutions to the current crises.

They also reviewed the developments of the Palestinian problem and ways of reviving peace negotiations. In this regard, Macron pointed out that Paris highly appreciates Cairo's related efforts.

Also, Sisi stressed Egypt's firm stance towards halting all violence as soon as possible and reaching a comprehensive and just solution guaranteeing the Palestinians' rights.

The two leaders also tackled GERD crisis, about which the president asserted that Egypt would not accept any harm to its water interests. (MENA)
