The Egyptian and Sudanese air forces held joint exercises dubbed "Nile Eagles 2" on Wednesday 31/3/2021 in Sudan's Marwa Airbase with the participation of Special Forces from both countries.

The exercises began with delivering instructions and organizing cooperation in a way that unifies concepts and sharpens skills needed to manage joint air operations in high competence.

The forces carried out joint take-offs to mimic hitting hostile targets and defending "vital targets" using multirole combat aircraft. 

On the other hand, the special forces of both countries trained on storming, concealment, and camouflage as well as sniping.

Chief of Staff of Sudanese Armed Forces General Mohamed Othman checked up on the forces taking part in the exercises and listened to a summary of the exercises' stages. Othman also witnessed the take-offs and the air exercises praising the harmony among the Egyptian and Sudanese forces.

The exercises are aimed at training forces participating in the exercises on planning and accomplishing air operations as well as measuring their readiness for accomplishing joint missions on different targets.  

On 5/4/2021, Chief-of-Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Mohamed Farid, accompanied by his Sudanese counterpart Lieutenant General Mohamed Othman Al-Hussein, witnessed the closing activities of the Egyptian-Sudanese joint air training “Nile Eagles – 2”. 

The training manoeuvres lasted for several days in Sudan, with the participation of members of the Air Forces and Special Forces from both countries.

The final phase began with a detailed presentation that included a review of the activities that were implemented in the various training stages. This was conducted to determine the extent of the readiness of the forces participating in the training to carry out any tasks entrusted to them.

The stage also included the equipping a number of aircraft and helicopters to carry out interception and air protection tasks for the forces. This came in addition to carrying out attacks on targets and defending vital targets.

The conclusion of the training activities showed the high level of personnel participating in the training, with Farid and Al-Hussein honouring a number of them during the training.

Farid delivered a speech, during which he conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Mohamed Zaki, to the political and military leaderships of Sudan.

He also praised what he saw as the sophisticated level and notable combat readiness of the armed forces of both countries participating in the training. 

Farid indicated that training is the essence of combat competence and the decisive factor for the forces’ success in carrying out their tasks efficiently and competently.

In a related context, Farid and Al-Hussein held a bilateral meeting that dealt with a number of issues of mutual interest, challenges, military and security threats, commitments and programmes for military cooperation during the coming period. 

The two sides also agreed on the importance of employing experiences gained from training activities in favour of developing operational tasks.

The closing of the activities was attended from the Egyptian side by: The Commanders of the Air Forces, Air Defence Forces, and Border Guards; as well as the Head of the Training Authority for the Armed Forces; the Commander of the Thunderbolt forces; and a number of leaders of the Armed Forces. 

On the Sudanese side, the closing of the activities was attended by the Commander of the Sudanese Air Force and a number of leaders of the Armed Forces. This was in addition to a number of senior statesmen, and military attachés accredited to Sudan.
