Manpower Minister Mohamed Safaan on Friday discussed at a meeting with Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Bärbel Kofler the possibility of cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in training and qualifying Egyptian technicians.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Safaan's participation in the fifth Union for the Mediterranean (UfM's) ministerial meeting on employment and labor in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

During his talks with Kofler, the manpower minister stressed his ministry's willingness to cooperate with the German side to implement projects that could contribute to providing job opportunities for Egyptian youth, noting that the government pays special attention to training for employment.

He explained the underway mega national projects have been a key factor in cutting unemployment rates that reached 7.2% in the first quarter of 2022, compared to 7.4% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2021, despite the current global challenges.

Concerning the issue of women's employment, the manpower minister said his ministry launched the national plan for gender equity at work, in cooperation with the International Labor Organization, as well as issuing two decisions No. 43 and 44 that allow women to join previously-prohibited professions.
