Sisi says Egypt to continue executing development initiatives

Friday، 24 June 2022 - 09:04 PM

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said that Egypt would continue implementing initiatives aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable development for the Egyptian people.

The president's remarks came during his participation via video-conference on Friday in the High-level Dialogue on Global Development, within the framework of the BRICS Plus format.

The virtual dialogue was chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the current chairman of the BRICS group.

President Sisi added that the State has been working to localize industry and boost exports, as well as increasing allocations to subsidy and social protection programs, while keeping on the implementation of development initiatives, such as "Decent Life" and "100 million healthy lives" initiatives.

He stated that the State seeks to become a center for renewable energy, through expansion into the production of green hydrogen and increasing reliance on solar energy and wind power.

The president thanked his Chinese counterpart for his invitation to take part in the BRICS-Plus Summit.

President Sisi explained that Egypt's membership in the New Development Bank could contribute to fostering interaction among the BRICS states and other developing countries that are not members of the group.

The president expressed hope that the New Development Bank would back Egypt's efforts to bring about sustainable development, lure foreign investments and strengthen the private sector's role.

President Sisi noticed that Egypt highly praises the BRICS group's keenness to adopt a joint vision on the political and economic issues of interest to developing countries, especially with regard to exploring prospects for development cooperation.

The president underlined that the efforts directed towards addressing the repercussions of the current economic crisis should not hinder the sustainable development process in developing and least developed countries

He stated that achieving the development goals should be in parallel with consolidating international efforts to address traditional and non-traditional challenges, foremost of which are the issues of terrorism and climate change.

The president called for adopting an inclusive approach to dry up the sources of terrorism and prevent the provision of funding, safe havens, and media platforms for terrorist organizations, as well as determining the economic and social factors that push some to join terrorist groups.

Regarding the climate change, President Sisi said the negative impacts of this phenomenon hinder development plans and threaten water and food security worldwide, which in turn could lead to a rise in conflicts and high rates of illegal immigration and internal displacement.

President Sisi underlined that Egypt would seek through its presidency of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), set for Sharm El Sheikh in November, to make every effort to achieve consensus among all parties concerned with international climate action, particularly with regard to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting developing and least developed countries in adapting to the negative effects of climate change.
