Environment Minister: Egypt supports steps to fund climate adaptation projects

Saturday، 10 September 2022 - 10:42 AM

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad asserted on Friday 09/09/2022 that climate adaptation measures are considered as major challenges to development partners and banks as they cannot be funded by banks.

This came during her speech in the fourth roundtable on the national platform for NWFE (Nexus on Food, Energy and Water) program for financing eco-friendly and green projects. The roundtable was held as part of activities of the Egypt International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF 2022), held under the sponsorship of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and the meeting of African ministers of finance, economy and environment.

The minister added that it is time to make adaption projects; like water and food projects, which attract bank financing via encouraging officials to fund these projects, noting that the Egyptian government is ready to support such steps.

The minister also stressed the importance of continuing collective solidarity to implement the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), to be held in Sharm el Sheikh city in November.

The roundtable was also attended by International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat, as well as a number of officials and representatives of institutions concerned.
