Egypt, WB discuss boosting cooperation

Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Saeed discussed Saturday 01/10/2022 with World Bank Regional Director for Human Development Keiko Miwa means of boosting cooperation in the domain of human development.
During their meeting, Saeed stressed the importance of the continuous cooperation and support between the World Bank and the Planning and Economic Development Ministry amid the modern trends of the global economic activities.
The minister briefed the WB official on the social protection measures offered to Egyptian citizens, including Takaful and Karama program, which the Egyptian government has adopted to support the needy people on the back of the current economic crisis.
As many as 3.8 million families benefit from the Takaful and Karama program, at the cost of EGP 19 billion, the minister added, noting recent presidential instructions to expand it to cover 4.1 million households in the coming years, with total costs reaching up to EGP 21 billion.
Also, beneficiaries from the Takaful and Karama program pensions have increased to five million families, up from 4.1 million previously with a total cost standing at EGP 5.5 billion, she added.
The minister also highlighted the Decent Life initiative, which targets improving the lives of the residents of poor rural areas, as part of the country’s sustainable development strategy: Egypt Vision 2030, which targets lowering the poverty rate through transferring 4,500 poor villages into sustainable rural communities.
