The Finance Ministry dismissed as baseless the remarks attributed to the finance minister on the Egyptian pound.

Some fake accounts on the social network websites, run by enemies of Egypt abroad, are used to spread lies and rumors as part of their hostile campaigns, aimed at destabilizing Egypt and causing frustration to the people, the ministry said in its statement.

These pages attribute to Egyptian ministers and officials false remarks and comments, not uttered by the officials, such as those claimed to be said by the finance minister, it added.

The ministry urged the media outlets and users of the social networks to seek accuracy while reporting to avoid circulating fake news.
