Turkish FM's visit to Egypt 'important': Abu Zeid

The visit by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to Egypt on Saturday 18/03/2023 is crucial and represents the inauguration of the path of restoring normal ties between Egypt and Turkey, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
During a phone interview with "On My Responsibility" program, presented by Ahmed Moussa on Sada El Balad TV channel, Abu Zeid pointed out to the meeting which was held between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan during attending FIFA World Cup 2022 opening ceremony in Qatar.
Abu Zeid also referred to the visit of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to Turkey to express condolences and sympathy for the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey.
During his visit to Turkey, Shoukry also held an expanded meeting with his Turkish counterpart, during which they discussed a host of issues of mutual interest, added the spokesman.
Egypt and Turkey are keen on restoring ties, affirmed Abu Zeid, pointing out to the historical ties binding the two countries at the local and official levels.
The expanded session held between the Egyptian and Turkish foreign ministers tackled exchanging viewpoints as regards various issues, according to the spokesman.
Regarding the regional issues, Abu Zeid said that Turkey supports the holding of the elections in Libya as soon as possible.
The viewpoints of Turkey and Syria are clear as regards the Palestinian cause, he said.
As for the economic sphere, Abu Zeid said that Turkey is keen on beefing up investments during the upcoming phase, adding that it is also aspires to increase investments in the tourism sphere.
Asked about the anticipated visit of the Turkish president to Egypt, Abu Zeid said that this issue was raised, adding that this visit will contribute to further promoting ties between the two countries.
