Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Hany Sweilam asserted on Thursday that Egypt succeeded during the 2022 UN climate conference, COP27, to put the water file at the heart of the global climate action priorities.

This occurred through organizing a high-level roundtable meeting, holding the water day, organizing a water pavilion in participation with countries and international organizations concerned and launching an international initiative for adaption in the water sector, the minister said.

This came in his speech during his participation in a session titled “From UN Water Conference to COP28: Accelerating Water and Climate Action” within the UN Midterm Review Conference that is taking place in New York on March 22-24.

The conference coincides with World Water Day, which falls on March 22 of each year.

The minister also urged all parties concerned to discuss the outcome of the COP27 in order to build on it during the COP28.
