Saturday، 10 June 2023 - 09:25 PM

Egypt President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said on Saturday 10/06/2023 that the country received about 200,000 Sudanese refugees over the past eight weeks, stressing that security should be restored to neighbouring countries.

El-Sis's remarks came while inspecting the Military Academy on Saturday.

He said that Egypt received about 9 million refugees from different countries, stressing that Egypt has always been a haven for the people of any country suffering from instability.

The president stated that Egypt is interested in settling the Sudanese crisis and voiced hope that the country will restore stability as soon as possible.

Furthermore, El-Sisi underlined the importance of avoiding foreign interference in internal affairs as this negatively affects the stability of countries; he underscored Egypt's steadfast stance on the issues of Libya and Sudan.

The president accentuated Egypt's keenness to achieve a ceasefire in Sudan and resolve the conflict via negotiations.

El-Sisi also addressed the country's current economic crises, affirming that state bodies have worked for over three years to alleviate the repercussions of these crises.

He added that the Russian-Ukrainian crisis affected the whole world, not only Egypt, stressing that the state is working on easing this crisis, which has also disrupted commodity supplies.

African cooperation

El-Sisi underlined the importance of boosting cooperation with African countries, highlighting his African tour in the last few days, which included participation in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) summit.

He said that the COMESA and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are Africa's largest economic entities that aim to boost trade exchange among African countries.

Egypt intensified efforts over the past two years to activate the trade agreement among COMESA member states, El-Sisi said, noting that three more countries still have to endorse it before launching cooperation.

After handing over the COMESA presidency to Zambia, Egypt became the group's rapporteur, the president said.

El-Sisi lauded the outcome of his visit to Angola and Mozambique as offering a chance for furthering cooperation.
