Shoukry, Indonesia FM discuss boosting bilateral ties, situation in Gaza

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry conferred with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on the distinguished bilateral ties between Egypt and Indonesia.

 

The get-together took place on the sidelines of G20 foreign ministers meeting held in Rio de Janeir.

 

Both ministers lauded the level of bilateral cooperation and coordination, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

 

Shoukry said that Egypt is looking forward for Indonesia's support for the nomination of Khlaed Anany for the post of UNESCO's director general, highlighting his educational qualifications and executive achievements.

 

The talks also tackled the situation in the Gaza Strip, the spokesman said.

 

Shoukry expressed Egypt's extreme sorrow over the inability of the UNSC to issue a decision on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

 

Shoukry was keen on appreciating the Indonesia stance which supports the Palestinian cause.

 

Meanwhile, Marsudi commended Egypt's role in delivering aid supplies to the enclave and efforts exerted to reach a ceasefire.
