Thursday، 07 March 2024 - 08:45 PM

The Egyptian state and people commemorate Martyr's Day, which coincides with the anniversary of the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Abdel Moneim Riad on the 9th of March in 1969, while he was among his valiant soldiers on the Suez Canal front during the War of Attrition.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Defense published several videos entitled “The Impact Remains” as a reminder of the history of the martyrs and their sacrifices.

Abdel Moneim Mohamed Riad was born on October 22, 1919, in the village of “Spriyay”, one of the suburbs of the city of Tanta. He is considered one of the most famous Arab soldiers in the second half of the twentieth century, as he participated in the Second World War against the Germans and Italians between 1941 and 1942, the Palestine War in 1948, the tripartite aggression in 1956, the 1967 war, and the War of Attrition.

Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser honored Abdel Moneim Riad by granting him the rank of Lieutenant General and awarding him the Military Star of Honor, which is the highest military decoration in Egypt, and moreover the date March 9 became the Martyr’s Day in Egypt.
