Egyptian champion Mohamed El-Shorbagy has succeeded to defend his crown in the final of the 2016 Men’s J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in New York.

World No.1 El-Shorbagy beat England’s Nick Matthew in 93-minute 3-2 match.

“Nick and myself always have such great battles. I told him after the match that it’s always an honor to play him in a World Series final and I was really happy to get my second title here. I really enjoyed the match today and I look forward to having more great battles with him in the future,” said El-Shorbagy.

The Women’s event, meanwhile, saw Egyptian female champion Nour El-Sherbini beating home champion Amanda Sobhy in a 3-1 game.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling, I cannot express it,” said El-Sherbini.
