Political Relations

Egypt and Morocco have distinct relations crowned by a mutual agreement on the establishment of a high joint committee chaired by the President of the Republic and the Moroccan Monarch; a general framework which governs various aspects of these relations, where the last session (the sixth) of the Committee was held in Marrakesh during the period of 11 to May 13, 2006.

The High Joint Committee "a number of sectoral committees entrusted with addressing ways of enhancing bilateral relations," convened periodically in the capitals of both countries to follow up the implementation of the recommendations of the High Commission, in order to support cooperative relations to new horizons.

On July 30, 2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi sent a telegram of congratulation to King Mohammed VI of Morocco on the celebration of the National Day.

 

Mutual Visits

On 15/1/2015: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Morocco on a two-day visit. During the visit he conveyed a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to King Mohammed VI of Morocco.  Shoukry held talks with his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddine Mezouar.

On 7/9/2014: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddine Mezouar ways of bolstering bilateral relations. Talks also covered regional and international issues of mutual interest and the latest developments in Libya, Gaza, Syria and Iraq.

On 5/7/2014: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco Salaheddine Mezouar. The minister conveyed to Sisi the greetings of King Mohammed VI and his wishes of progress and prosperity for Egypt. The President asked the minister to convey his thanks and appreciation to Morocco's king, highlighting the importance of boosting bilateral relations during the upcoming phase. The meeting took up a number of regional and African issues of common concern. Sisi said that Egypt aspires to bolster Egyptian-Moroccan relations, as both countries adopt similar stances on many issues of mutual interest. The President highlighted the importance of boosting economic relations with Morocco by doubling the trade exchange volume, which currently does not exceed $600 million.

On 11/3/2014: Former Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim visited Marrakech, Morocco leading a high profile security delegation to take part in the 3st session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.

 

Economic Relations

Trade 2009:

The trade between the two countries during the period from January to June 2009 reached 223.5 million dollars, wherein the Egyptian exports to morocco reached 175.5 million dollars, while the Egyptian imports reached 48 million dollars.

Investment:

Egyptian investment in morocco: no accurate statistics for the volume of the Egyptian investment in morocco. One of the most prominent Egyptian companies working there is ORASCOM hotels and development, the Moroccan Fund for Management and Deposit for establishing tourist resort in Tan-Tan south of morocco, and the HIDLICO Egypt company for electrical projects, as well as the Arab contactors company, and the New Air company.

The Moroccan investment in Egypt: it reached about 14 million dollars, most of the investment belongs to the Moroccan businessman Melode el Shaaby, including a number of the sectors like tourism, food industry and chemicals.

The Egyptian exports to Morocco: transferring the red beet, oils and petroleum products, medicine, plastic and chemical products, iron and steel, air-conditions and spare parts, refrigerators, spices and food products.

The Egyptian imports from Morocco: frozen fishes, frozen sardine, coffee concentrates, Pulp, lead ore, iron steel remnants, iron slices, Herbs, and Fabrics for furniture.

Tourism

A delegation from the Ministry of Tourism visited Morocco from 3-6 March 2010 for holding tourist festival for Reda band and singer Medhat Saleh.

 

Cultural and Media Relations

The cultural relations between Egypt and Morocco is very important and essential. The first cultural protocol between the two countries was signed in 1959.

The media relations witnessed positive development due to the formation of the joint media committee as an implementation to the recommendations of the first media protocol that was signed in 1988. The committee held its first meeting in Rabat in January 1994.

On 13-15/4/2014: The minister of higher education and scientific research participated in the inauguration of the Egyptian-Moroccan joint technical committee in the scientific research.
